Program Description

The Connecticut Bar Association Federal Practice Section is hosting a roundtable conversation about supervised release. In the federal system, people who are released from prison are generally required to serve a term of “supervision” and comply with “conditions.”  In 2025, the U.S. Sentencing Commission amended its guidance on supervision.  A good deal of research addresses the impact of supervision on formerly incarcerated people, and case law considers the governing principles. Current questions include the utility of some conditions and the role of early termination of supervision. For this discussion, the Section welcomes The Honorable Stefan R. Underhill (D. Conn.), Jocelyn Kaoutzanis (U.S. Attorney's Office), Allison Kahl (Office of Federal Public Defender), Nicole Owens (U.S. Probation and Pretrial Services), and Dr. Reena Kapoor (Professor of Psychiatry, Yale School of Medicine). The event will be moderated by Professor Judith Resnik (Arthur Liman Professor of Law, Yale University). All members of the Bar and public are welcome to register.
