Navigating a Medicare-Covered Hospital Stay
Speaker
Eric Krupa is a supervising attorney at the Center for Medicare Advocacy, which is a national, non-profit, law organization that works to advance access to comprehensive Medicare coverage, health equity, and quality health care for older people and people with disabilities. Eric oversees the Center’s direct client services practice in Connecticut and works to ensure that the Center is a dependable source of information, advocacy, and representation for individual Medicare beneficiaries who are experiencing barriers to accessing their full Medicare benefits. Eric graduated from Hunter College and Notre Dame Law School. He is licensed to practice law in Connecticut and Maine.
Program Description
Medicare Part A covers inpatient hospitalization. Medicare Advantage is required to provide at least as much coverage as Part A. With increasing frequency, beneficiaries are experiencing barriers to accessing this coverage. This presentation will include a deep dive into coverage criteria under the Code of Federal Regulations, how observation status may affect coverage, and beneficiary appeal rights with the goal of being able to help beneficiaries receive medically necessary care at the lowest out-of-pocket cost.
