2022 Legislative Session

LEGISLATIVE SESSION

The legislature was in session this past week on Wednesday. The only issues on the table were the renomination to eight years of superior court judges and state referees.  They were all approved.

In the past week:

There was a packed public hearing discussing a proposed 35 percent excise tax on ammunition with advocates on both sides.

After citizens protesting a proposal to eliminate religious exemptions for immunizations, those who opposed the legislation returned this week to listen to the Public Health Committee vote on this proposal, though at first grandfathering children presently exempted. The committee approved the amended bill. The next morning, there were already over 100 amendments to be proposed for the bill when it comes up on the floor, maybe as early as next week.

The Insurance Committee was filled as an insulin cost cap bill was before a public hearing.

On Monday, March 2, the Judiciary Committee will hold a public hearing on the adult use of cannabis.

A state senator was called out for requesting lobbyist donations for her workplace where she works as executive director, and is the solo full-time staff. This senator co-chairs the legislative committee that has cognizance over elections and campaign funding.

Joint favorable (JF) deadlines for committees begin on March 12.
