STATE BOND COMMISSION APPROVES $1.4 BILLION

The State Bond Commission held a Special Meeting on Tuesday, October 22nd to approve $1.4 billion in borrowing for a range of projects across Connecticut. Highlights from the 43-item agenda includes an allocation of $40 million to reopen Connecticut's ‘Time To Own’ first-time homebuyers assistance program to a new round of applicants, $30 million for state park infrastructure improvements and $250 for school construction and building projects. CGA’s Office of Fiscal Analysis (OFA) published an analysis of the Bond Commission agenda intended to provide additional information and analysis of the items on the agenda to members.

BREAKING NEWS

Governor Lamont and Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) Commissioner Katie Dykes announced the release of $28 million in grants awarded under the first round of the state’s ConneCTed Communities Grant Program. Administered by DEEP, these grants will support the buildout of broadband infrastructure in more than half of Connecticut’s communities.

This week, Secretary of the State Stephanie Thomas helped to kickoff Connecticut’s first ever 14-day period of early voting for the 2024 general election. The early voting began on Monday, October 21st and runs through November 3rd. Election Day is on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, and all polling places in Connecticut will be open like normal from 6:00am to 8:00pm.

Governor Lamont and Connecticut Banking Commissioner Jorge Perez, along with CEOs and executives of major banks and credit unions from across Connecticut announced partnerships between state government and the financial services industry to provide relief and critical information to individuals and businesses impacted by the August 18, 2024, severe flooding in Fairfield County, Litchfield County, and New Haven County.
