The Connecticut Bar Association (CBA) is seeking volunteer attorneys to provide disaster-related legal assistance to individuals affected by Hurricane Ida. Training will be provided.
The Connecticut Bar Association will host a new hotline for individuals affected by Hurricane Ida on September 1 and 2, 2021 that are seeking disaster-related legal assistance. The hotline will be available to affected individuals in the following counties and tribal nations: Fairfield County, the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, the Mohegan Tribal Nation, New Haven County, and New London County.
The hotline is part of a program created by the American Bar Association Young Lawyers Division Disaster Legal Services Team and the Federal Emergency Management Agency. The American Bar Association is offering both live and on-demand training for volunteer attorneys, which will provide all the necessary knowledge to assist the public in securing FEMA and other government benefits available to disaster victims. No prior experience in disaster relief legal assistance is needed to volunteer. Volunteers will not be answering calls directly on the hotline, but instead will be contacted by the CBA when there is a client in need of a pro bono attorney.
