Douglas J. Monaghan Recognized For 30 Years of Service in the Juvenile Court

 Douglas J. Monaghan received a plaque recognizing his years of service in the Juvenile Court since 1992.



On May 20, 2021, the Child Welfare and Juvenile Law Section was happy to recognize Attorney Douglas J. Monaghan during the section's virtual meeting for his 30 years of service in the Juvenile Court.  Attorney Monaghan earned a BA in Psychology at Lafayette College. He received his JD at the Delaware Law School of Widener University in 1980, and was admitted to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Bar in 1980.

Attorney Monaghan practiced law as a judge advocate in the United States Navy from 1981 through 1987.  During his last tour of duty, he served as a prosecutor and defense counsel at the Submarine Base in Groton, Connecticut.  Attorney Monaghan is a recipient of the Navy Achievement and Navy Commendation Medals. LCDR Monaghan retired from the U.S. Naval Reserve as a Lieutenant Commander.

Attorney Monaghan was admitted to the State of Connecticut Bar in 1987 and the United States District Court of CT in 1988.  He is a member of the Connecticut Bar Association (Past Chair, Child Welfare and Juvenile Law Section). Attorney Monaghan previously served on the boards of directors of Juvenile Matters Trial Lawyers Association (2004-2010), Thames Valley Council for Community Action, Inc. (2002-2010), Boys To Men, Inc. (1994-2002) and Mystic Babe Ruth Baseball (1994-2001); Member, Groton RTM (29th & 31st).

Attorney Monaghan resides in Gales Ferry, Connecticut with his wife, Ann.  They have two sons, Adam (who completed service in the Peace Corps in Honduras) and Matthew (retired from the United States Coast Guard), and four granddaughters.
