CBA members gathered at the Truck Bar in Berlin for a fundraiser supporting the Ralph J. Monaco Memorial Civics Education Fund.

On May 19, members of the CBA gathered at The Truck Bar in Berlin for a fundraiser hosted by the Connecticut Bar Association’s Civics Education Committee to support the Ralph J. Monaco Memorial Civics Education Fund (Monaco Memorial Fund). Through ticket sales and support from sponsors over $8000 was raised to support the Monaco Memorial Fund. Attendees enjoyed food, drinks, and a variety of games ranging from cornhole, yard pong, and ladder toss to arcade games, pool, and shuffleboard.

The Monaco Memorial Fund is named in honor of the CBA’s 87th president, Ralph J. Monaco, who passed away in 2021. Attorney Monaco was a champion of civics education and the purpose of the fund is to provide monetary grants that accompany the Ralph J. Monaco Memorial Civics Education Awards (Monaco Civics Awards), which are presented annually at the CBA’s Law Day Celebration to Connecticut high school students who demonstrate a significant commitment to advancing civic engagement, civics education, and the rule of law.

At the fundraiser, CBA past President Daniel J. Horgan emphasized the growth of the fund over the past five years, which has led to the presentation of numerous awards and grants to Connecticut high school students. He concluded by leading a toast to Ralph J. Monaco, noting, “Ralph would want all of us to continue what we’re doing, which is loving our families, doing the best we can at our jobs, taking care of our kids, and living every day to the fullest and we’re going to continue to do that.”

Thank you to Anderson Trial Lawyers, Conway Londregan Sheehan & Monaco PC, Faulkner & Graves, Horgan Law Offices, Law Firm of Stephen M. Reck & Scott D. Camassar, Norte Immigration Law, Polito & Harrington LLC, and Shipman & Goodwin for sponsoring the fundraiser.
