Meriden – A delegation from the Connecticut Bar Association (CBA) traveled to Washington, D.C., from March 24–26 to participate in the American Bar Association (ABA)’s 2026 ABA Day Event,

ABA Day brings together attorneys, bar leaders, and legal advocates from across the country to engage directly with members of Congress and their staff on issues impacting the legal profession and access to justice.

During the three-day event, the CBA delegation joined colleagues from state and local bar associations nationwide to advocate for key legislative priorities. These issues included strengthening access to legal services, ensuring adequate funding for public defender programs, enhancing judicial security, and addressing emerging legal challenges such as artificial intelligence and attorney-client confidentiality in the digital age.

ABA Day State Captains Daniel A. Schwartz and Alison J. Toumekian, along with the CBA’s Delegates to the ABA Amy Lin Meyerson and Steve Curley met with Connecticut U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal, U.S. Representatives Jim Himes and Joe Courtney as well as legislative staff members of Senator Chris Murphy and representatives Rosa DeLauro, Johana Hayes, and John Larson.

“ABA Day provides a critical opportunity for attorneys to bring real-world perspectives directly to our nation’s lawmakers. It’s important that Congress hears from us about the challenges facing the legal profession and the communities we serve. Our delegation was proud to advocate for policies that strengthen access to justice, protect the rule of law, and support the essential work of attorneys across Connecticut and the country,” stated Attorney Schwartz.

The advocacy efforts are part of the ABA’s broader mission to promote the rule of law and improve the administration of justice nationwide. The CBA’s participation in ABA Day reflects its ongoing commitment to representing the interests of Connecticut attorneys while advancing policies that support a fair and accessible legal system.
