Nine CBA Young Lawyers Receive Service Awards

Nine Young Lawyers Section (YLS) Executive Committee members of the Connecticut Bar Association (CBA) received awards at the section’s Leadership Retreat on June 28-29 for their service during the 2018-2019 bar year.

Rookie of the Year Award

Sara J. Dickson, Stanger Stanfield Law LLC, received a Rookie of the Year award for her work as the YLS Healthcare Law Committee chair, planning and organizing continuing legal education, assisting with the Horn a Plenty Food Drive, and planning and assisting with the tasting series.

Jonathan E. Friedler, Geraghty & Bonnano LLC, was recognized with a Rookie of the Year award for his work as the YLS Professional Responsibility and Ethics Committee chair, planning of the Meet the Branches event, assisting with the Horn a Plenty Food Drive and career panels, and volunteering at the Connecticut Supreme Court Swearing-In ceremony to welcome new attorneys to the to the CBA.

Star of the Year Award

Julia R. Camarco, Shipman & Goodwin LLP, received a Star of the Year award for her work as the YLS Business Law Committee chair.  In her first few years with the YLS she has demonstrated dedication, planning, and organizing continuing legal education in her area of practice as well as assisting other executive committee members in their work.

George O'Donnell, McGann Bartlett & Brown LLC, was recognized with a Star of the Year award for his work as the YLS Workers' Compensation Committee chair and coordination of the YLS Golf Tournament.  He has been recognized by the YLS CLE directors as setting an example in his organization and for his hard work in providing CLE for the section.

Christopher Klepps
, Updike Kelly & Spellacy PC, and Kyle McClain, Zangari Cohn Cuthbertson Duhl & Grello PC, were recognized with Star of the Year awards for their service as YLS CLE directors. This was Attorney McClain’s second year in this very demanding role and Attorney Klepps’ first. Both worked extremely hard and well together to organize a successful year of continuing legal education.

Joanna Kornafel, Green & Sklarz LLC, received a Star of the Year award for her work as an YLS public service director, planning the Habitat for Humanity build, and the Horn a Plenty Food Drive. Attorney Kornafel has served on the executive committee since 2013 and has served in nearly every YLS director role, particularly as a driving force behind the YLS’s public service efforts, for which the section as a whole has been repeatedly recognized.

Trent LaLima, Santos & LaLima PC, received a Star of the Year award for his work as the YLS Criminal Law Committee chair and planning the YLS Golf Tournament.  Attorney LaLima has been a dedicated and stand-out member of the YLS in his first two years on the YLS Criminal Law Committee.

Leadership Award

Amanda G. Schreiber, Cigna, received the Leadership Award for her work as the section’s chair-elect. She has gone above and beyond in the energy she brought to her work, her organizational talents, and leadership skills. Attorney Schreiber made much of the success of the YLS this year possible through her efforts, and the YLS is lucky to have her as chair for the 2019-2020 year.
