On June 15, Governor Ned Lamont announced his nomination of Connecticut Appellate Court Chief Judge Melanie L. Cradle for the forthcoming vacant associate justice seat on the Connecticut Supreme Court. Governor Lamont also announced that he has nominated Connecticut Superior Court Judge W. Glen Pierson to fill the vacancy on the Appellate Court that will be created by Judge Cradle’s elevation to the Supreme Court.

On June 2, over 850 legal professionals, including attorneys, judges, law students, and paralegals, gathered at the Connecticut Convention Center for the 2026 Connecticut Legal Conference (CLC), the largest annual gathering of legal professionals in the state.

During a ceremony held on May 29, a group of 23 new attorneys were sworn into the Connecticut Bar inside the Connecticut Supreme Court chambers.

The Young Lawyers Section Executive Committee is currently seeking applications for the Committee for the 2026-2027 bar year. Applications are due by Friday, June 12, 2026.

On May 21, members of the Connecticut Bar Association (CBA)'s Young Lawyers Section (YLS), along with law students, family members, and friends, gathered at the New Britain Museum of American Art for The Art of Connection: YLS Scavenger Social.

On May 19, members of the CBA gathered at The Truck Bar in Berlin for a fundraiser hosted by the Connecticut Bar Association’s Civics Education Committee to support the Ralph J. Monaco Memorial Civics Education Fund (Monaco Memorial Fund). Through ticket sales and support from sponsors over $8000 was raised to support the Monaco Memorial Fund.

The Connecticut Bar Association Civics Education Committee held its annual Law Day Ceremony at the Connecticut Appellate Court on May 7. During the event, the annual Ralph J. Monaco Memorial Civics Education Awards were presented to six Connecticut High School students.

The Connecticut Bar Association (CBA) welcomed members of the legal community to the 2026 Well-Being Summit at its offices in Meriden on May 6 for a morning dedicated to mindfulness, wellness, and self-healing.

On April 30, members of the Connecticut Bar Association (CBA) gathered for the unique networking event, Line Dancing for Lawyers. Held at the Ebony Horsewomen Inc. Equestrian and Therapeutic Center in Hartford, the event invited legal professionals and law students of all experience levels to take a break from their daily routines and participate in a line dancing lesson.

The CBA hosted its most recent quarterly Free Legal Advice Clinic on Tuesday, April 21, and Wednesday, April 22. Held from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on both days, the clinic connected community members in need of legal advice with volunteer attorneys who, during 30-minute virtual online sessions, provided guidance on a variety of legal issues.

The CBA is seeking leaders to represent their colleagues in the House of Delegates for a three-year term. The districts that have at least one expiring seat beginning July 1st are 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 9, 11, 12, 13, 14, and 17.

On April 2, the Connecticut Bar Association (CBA), the Connecticut Bar Foundation (CBF), the CBF James W. Cooper Fellows, and Quinnipiac University School of Law co-hosted a video premiere at Quinnipiac’s law school campus that highlighted four trailblazing attorneys of color in CT: Marilyn Diaz; Past CBA President Amy Lin Meyerson; Judge M. Nawaz Wahla; and John Rose, Jr.

On March 24-26, a delegation of bar leaders from the CBA traveled to Washington, D.C. to attend the American Bar Association (ABA)’s 2026 ABA Day event.

The Connecticut Bar Association is pleased to announce the addition of Heather Holt as its Director of Membership Strategies. In this role, Heather is responsible for leading a strategic approach to engagement, retention, and the end-to-end member experience.

From December 2025 through March 2026, the Connecticut Bar Association hosted a statewide high school mock trial competition that brought together students from across the state to demonstrate their advocacy skills, legal knowledge, and professionalism in the courtroom. Organized under the supervision of the Mock Trial Subcommittee of the CBA Civics Education Committee, the competition began in December with regional trials held in courthouses throughout Connecticut.

CBA Members Campbell D. Barrett, Theodore M. Doolittle, Patrick M. Fahey, Leah Pollard, and Patrick T. Ring were among those nominated.

The Connecticut Bar Association welcomed over 300 legal professionals, community members, and their families and friends at the Aqua Turf Club in Plantsville on March 12 for the thirteenth annual Celebrate with the Stars awards dinner—an evening dedicated to honoring excellence, service, and leadership across the Connecticut legal community.

The CBA Women in the Law Section and the CBA Young Lawyers Section (YLS) Women in the Law Committee presented the 2026 Ladder Award to Attorney Nancy Kennedy at this year’s Pathways to Leadership for Women Lawyers event on March 5 at the Aqua Turf Club in Plantsville.

Over 150 attendees gathered at the Pond House Café in West Hartford on February 10 for the Connecticut Bar Association (CBA) Young Lawyers Section’s (YLS) 2026 Diversity Dinner. The event’s primary presentations included a keynote address from Representative Matt Ritter, who currently serves as the speaker of the Connecticut House of Representatives and a discussion with a four-person panel.
