On April 10-11, a Connecticut Bar Association delegation traveled to Washington, DC to attend the American Bar Association (ABA)’s 2024 ABA Day event. ABA Day is a conference that brings together leaders of the ABA and thousands of professionals from state and local bar associations from across the country to advocate on behalf of issues of importance to the legal profession.

CBA Members Tamar R. Birckhead, Corrine A. Boni-Vendola, Kristin A. Connors, Steven R. Dembo, Cody N. Guarnieri, Cristina M. Lopez, Matthew Necci, Susan E. Nugent, John P. Regan, Eric P. Smith, Alayna M. Stone, and Matthew Wax-Krell were among those nominated.

Over 300 legal professionals, community members, families, and friends attended the eleventh annual “Celebrate with the Stars” awards dinner on April 3 at the Aqua Turf Club in Plantsville to honor individuals who have made an impact on the Connecticut Legal Community.

Volunteer to respond to polling place complications on early voting days and election day for the upcoming Presidential Preference Primary.

The CBA Women in the Law Section, in association with the CBA Young Lawyers Section (YLS) Women in the Law Committee, presented the 2024 Ladder Award to the Honorable Evelyn M. Daly at this year’s Pathways to Leadership for Women Lawyers event on March 7 at the Aqua Turf Club in Plantsville.

The CBA will be relocating to its new office located at Meriden Executive Park, 538 Preston Avenue, Meriden, CT, 06450 by this summer.

We are seeking leaders to represent their colleagues in the House of Delegates for a three-year term. The districts that have at least one expiring seat beginning July 1st are 3, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, and 12.

Current and past CBA presidential fellows and association leaders gathered at Grassy Hill Country Club in Orange on December 5 for the annual Presidential Fellows Dinner.

Past presidents and members of the Board of Governors and House of Delegates gathered on November 30 for a gala celebrating the 100 presidents of the Connecticut Bar Association at Anthony’s Ocean View in New Haven.

We are currently looking to fill the positions of vice president, secretary, treasurer, and assistant secretary-treasurer for the 2024-2025 bar year.

On November 3, 2023, 150 new attorneys were sworn into the Connecticut Bar during two ceremonies held in the morning and afternoon in the Museum of Connecticut History inside the Connecticut State Library and Supreme Court Building.

After three years of virtual events, the Connecticut Bar Association’s eighth Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Summit returned in person on October 20. Over 150 members of the Connecticut legal community gathered at the University of Connecticut School of Law for the Summit.

On October 19, the Connecticut Bar Association Young Lawyers Section hosted its annual Pro Bono Fair and Golf Event at the Hartford Golf Club. Over 50 people attended the event, which consisted of a nine-hole round of golf followed by a reception.

On October 5, the Connecticut Bar Association (CBA) hosted its second annual Pro Bono Volunteer Recognition Reception. The reception was held at the CBA building in New Britain and was attended by volunteers who participate in the CBA’s various pro bono programs throughout the year.

Starting November 4, 2023, Zoom will enforce its new Zoom Software Quarterly Lifecycle Policy, which will require users to update their Zoom software to a minimum version to connect to meetings and webinars on a quarterly basis. To ensure that you are still able to access CBA events held virtually via Zoom, please update your software to the latest version as soon as possible and continue to do so regularly.

On Thursday, September 28, the Connecticut Bar Association (CBA) hosted the fundraiser Helping Hands for Hawaii to support disaster assistance for those affected by the recent wildfires in Hawaii. The fundraiser, which was created as an initiative of CBA President Maggie Castinado, was hosted at Salute Restaurant in Hartford, where attendees gathered to show support and contribute to this important cause.

On September 21 through 23, more than 50 attorneys from Connecticut and nearby states gathered at Mohegan Sun for the Northeast Regional Professional Development Conference for Young Lawyers. The conference was hosted by the Connecticut Bar Association Young Lawyers Section and provided the opportunity for young lawyers from throughout the northeast region to network and gain critical skills and knowledge to develop as leaders in the legal profession.

This year, CBA members continued to provide pro bono legal services to veterans at the Connecticut Department of Veterans Affairs’ annual Stand Down event, which the CBA has assisted with since 1998.
