Ernest J. Mattei will receive the Edward F. Hennessey Professionalism Award at the CBA’s annual awards celebration, Celebrate with the Stars, on Wednesday, April 20. For nearly 50 years, Attorney Mattei practiced law with exemplary passion and professionalism. In December 2020, he retired from his position as partner at Day Pitney LLP.
Prior to his retirement, he practiced as a trial lawyer in the area of complex commercial disputes, with an emphasis on insurance coverage and insurance defense related matters. He showed remarkable talent and skill while zealously protecting his clients’ interests, both inside and outside of the courtroom. His substantial trial experience includes cases in state and federal courts throughout 11 different states. He was involved in appeals to the Appellate and Supreme Court of Connecticut, as well as the Courts of Appeals for the Second and Fourth Circuits. Throughout his career, Attorney Mattei consistently maintained a level of integrity, dignity, and civility that honored the profession and earned him the respect of the state legal community. In his retirement he has remained active in the Hartford County and Connecticut Bar Associations.
The Edward F. Hennessey Professionalism Award recognizes and honors a member of the bar whose career has manifested a dedication to the highest ideals and standards of the legal profession.
