On November 3, 2023, 150 new attorneys were sworn into the Connecticut Bar during two ceremonies held in the morning and afternoon in the Museum of Connecticut History inside the Connecticut State Library and Supreme Court Building. Chief Justice Richard A. Robinson; Associate Justices Joan K. Alexander, Nora R. Dannehy, and Andrew J. McDonald; and Deputy Court Administrator Judge Anna M. Ficeto presided over the day’s morning ceremony.

During both the morning and afternoon ceremonies, Chief Justice Robinson provided welcome remarks and a brief speech recognizing and congratulating the new admittees on their achievement and advising them on the important role they have in upholding the rule of law. “The law and the rule of law are the fabric that holds this society together and you lawyers are the tailors of that cloth,” stated Chief Justice Robinson as he reminded the inductees of their new ethical, moral, and legal responsibilities as attorneys.

Justice McDonald administered the oath of attorney to the inductees before they each individually presented themselves as attorneys before the court. At the end of the ceremony, CBA President-Elect James T. Shearin provided a welcome speech to the new attorneys. “Honor is what is at the essence of our profession,” stated President-Elect Shearin as he noted the important duty each attorney plays in sustaining the integrity of the legal system. He cautioned the admittees that their careers would be rewarding, but inherently difficult, before encouraging them to seek help when necessary, stating, “Reach out to your colleagues and those same family and friends that got you here today for the support you need.”
