Regen O’Malley is one of four attorneys who will receive The Honorable Anthony V. DeMayo Pro Bono Award at the CBA’s annual awards celebration, Celebrate with the Stars, on Wednesday, May 3.
Attorney O’Malley is of counsel at Gordon Rees Scully Mansukhani LLP and concentrates her practice on insurance coverage as well as defense of insurers and other companies against both contractual and extra-contractual claims. She has practiced in both state and federal courts since 2003. Attorney O’Malley has successfully handled numerous appeals in the Connecticut Appellate Court, Connecticut Supreme Court, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit on cases involving civil rights and insurance-related actions as well as legal and medical malpractice.
For over four years, Attorney O’Malley has provided direct pro bono representation to veterans through the Connecticut Veterans Legal Center (CVLC), working on behalf of low-income veterans facing immediate homelessness through eviction. In one case, Attorney O’Malley went so far as to ensure access to transportation and storage arrangements to assist a disabled veteran who was preparing to move prior to an eviction.
Attorney O’Malley has been actively involved in the Connecticut Bar Association (CBA) since she began practicing. Among other roles, she has served as a member of the CBA House of Delegates and Board of Governors and as chair of the Insurance Law Section. She is also the current chair of the CT Lawyer Advisory Committee and serves on the Presidential Fellows Committee. Attorney O’Malley is also active outside of the legal community; she currently serves as the chair of the Governance Committee of CT Humanities and has served in several positions with the New Britain YWCA, including as president of its Board of Directors, chair of its Women in Leadership Committee, and currently on its Board of Trustees.
The Honorable Anthony V. DeMayo Pro Bono Award recognizes CBA members who demonstrated dedication to the provision of legal services without expectation of payment to those in need. He is one of four attorneys receiving the award this year.
