Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is an eight-week psycho-educational and experiential course in mindfulness developed at the University of Massachusetts Medical School by Jon Kabat-Zinn. Widely considered the gold standard in secular mindfulness education, MBSR is the protocol most commonly used in clinical trials that measure the effects of mindfulness training on various psychiatric and medical conditions. This workshop will cover the origin and history of mindfulness, the relationship between mindfulness and meditation, the contemporary landscape of mindfulness training and research in the United States, the origin and structure of the MBSR course, and some common myths about mindfulness. It includes an experiential mindfulness practice.
