About the Program

Interested in starting or improving your own law practice? This series will cover the basics. You will gain knowledge on revenue-building techniques, such as court-appointments, limited scope representation and basic fee agreement/IOLTA information. You will gain knowledge and insights on what is needed to grow and market a solo practice or small law firm.

You Will Learn

  • The basics of opening a law practice including office space, computers and software, office management systems, basic business planning and banking, branding and insurance considerations
  • Basic techniques on how to generate revenue and keep that revenue, including assigned Counsel contracts, Probate court assignments, Foreclosure committees, Limited scope, representation and paid consultations, introductory IOLTA/fee agreement information
  • Basic strategies for marketing and advertising, including social media, the ethical requirements and limitations for marketing and advertising
  • Introductory information in expanding a practice (e.g. hiring)

Lawyers and law students contemplating opening their own practice as well as current solo and small firm lawyers looking to improve their practices.
