Identifying and Navigating Elder Abuse in the 21st Century

Program Description

Elder abuse is a growing problem. While it is increasingly common, elder abuse remains underreported. This presentation is designed to assist lawyers and probate judges in identifying and addressing potential elder abuse. Participants will learn about the signs, symptoms, and red flags of different types of abuse, whether physical, emotional, or financial. This program will also address the role of the attorney and possible civil remedies, both in the Probate Court and Superior Court systems. The program will also have a brief discussion of the ethical considerations probate judges and attorneys must consider when reporting abuse.
