Speakers

Suzanne B. Sutton, Cohen and Wolf, PC

About the Program:

As USCIS transitions to electronic fee payments, this program will address inquiries regarding how to navigate these changes in accordance with applicable Connecticut ethics rules.

Topics:

  • May a lawyer pay a client’s filing fee from an IOLTA account via ACH transaction or debit card?
  • If a lawyer pays a client’s filing fee via personal credit card or law firm credit card, at what point may the lawyer withdraw funds from the IOLTA account to reimburse the filing fee?
  • How does a lawyer keep an appropriate record of an electronic filing fee disbursement from an IOLTA account?
  • May a lawyer pass to the client the bank fees or credit card fees associated with the e-filing transaction?
  • May a lawyer keep the credit card rewards or rebates generated in paying the client’s filing fees by the lawyer’s or law firm’s credit card?
