Annual membership dues may be waived permanently for an attorney 65 years of age or older who has been a member of the CBA for the last 10 consecutive years and is retired from the practice of law. If your membership dues were waived under this provision last year, then they will automatically be waived this year unless your membership status has changed. You must notify us if your membership status changes. If you are applying for the waiver for the first time, please send to CBA, 30 Bank Street, New Britain, CT 06051: (1) a written request for waiver, (2) certification that written notice of retirement has been filed with the Clerk of the Superior Court for the Judicial District of Hartford as well as the proper authority for any out-of-state admissions, or in lieu of such notices, an affidavit stating that you have retired and will not engage in the practice of law for compensation despite the decision not to resign from the bar, and (3) either (i) a copy of your waiver of the attorney’s occupational tax or (ii) a copy of your partial waiver of the Client Security Fund Fee, for the year of application on the ground that you will not receive compensation in excess of $450 per year from engaging in the practice of law.
