The CBA offers membership dues installment payment options, discounts, and waivers to eligible members. If you have any questions about these special membership programs, please contact the CBA Member Service Center at (860)223-4400 or msc@ctbar.org.

Note: discounts and waivers apply only to membership, not section dues

Installment Payment Option

A payment installment option is available for attorney members wishing to pay membership dues in monthly installments for the upcoming bar year. The option is only open to those attorney members who pay by credit card or ACH/E-check online.

When you enroll in the installment program, you are promising to pay the full amount of your membership dues. These payments are not refundable or pro-rated. If your future payment fails or is declined, your membership will be suspended until back payments are made. Your ability to re-join in future periods will be contingent upon fulfilling any failed payments.

Your membership dues payments will be spaced evenly throughout the bar year and your credit card or bank account be billed automatically for the remaining payments. When you select the installment plan option while renewing or joining online, a schedule of your payments is available. If you would like to learn your payment schedule at any other time or to stop your payment plan option and pay in full, contact our Member Service Center at msc@ctbar.org or (844)469-2221.

To enroll, click the installment payment option button when you complete your membership renewal or initial application.

Financial Hardship Waiver

Annual membership dues may be discounted up to 50% for attorneys whose financial circumstances as of July 1 of the membership year are such that payment of full dues would constitute a severe financial hardship. To apply for the discount, send a confidential written request detailing your financial circumstances and certifying that payment of full dues would constitute a severe financial hardship to: CBA, 30 Bank Street, New Britain, CT 06051. If your application is approved, you will be invoiced at the discounted rate for that year. You must reapply for each bar year for which you seek the discount.

Retirement Waiver

Annual membership dues may be waived permanently for an attorney 65 years of age or older who has been a member of the CBA for the last 10 consecutive years and is retired from the practice of law. If your membership dues were waived under this provision last year, then they will automatically be waived this year unless your membership status has changed. You must notify us if your membership status changes. If you are applying for the waiver for the first time, please send to CBA, 30 Bank Street, New Britain, CT 06051: (1) a written request for waiver, (2) certification that written notice of retirement has been filed with the Clerk of the Superior Court for the Judicial District of Hartford as well as the proper authority for any out-of-state admissions, or in lieu of such notices, an affidavit stating that you have retired and will not engage in the practice of law for compensation despite the decision not to resign from the bar, and (3) either (i) a copy of your waiver of the attorney’s occupational tax or (ii) a copy of your partial waiver of the Client Security Fund Fee, for the year of application on the ground that you will not receive compensation in excess of $450 per year from engaging in the practice of law.

Military Waiver

Annual membership dues may be waived for members of the United States military who have been called to active duty as of July 1 of the membership year. To apply for the waiver, send a confidential written request along with a copy of your mobilization orders to: CBA, 30 Bank Street, New Britain, CT 06051. If your application is approved, you will be notified in writing. You must reapply for each bar year for which you seek the waiver.
