SESSION


This week, the General Assembly passed two emergency certification bills,HB 7066with a vote of94 to 49,andHB 7067with avote of 140 to 5. Highlights of the proposals include ways to address interactions between school personnel and immigration authorities, special education funding, the purchase and use of certain drones, grants to nonprofit organizations, compensation for student-athletes as well as changes to the motor vehicle property tax assessment. The bills now head to the Governor' desk to be signed.

The $40 million for Special Education that the House and Senate passed is aimed to boost funding for cities and towns. Thisnew funding, is addition to the $181 million previously appropriated by the legislature for the current 2025 fiscal year. Governor Lamontreleased a statement on HB 7067, where he provided his perspective on special education funding.
