Thomas J. Sansone CWTS 2024Thomas J. Sansone will receive the Citizen of the Law Award at the CBA’s annual awards celebration, Celebrate with the Stars, on Wednesday, April 3.

Attorney Sansone is a partner at Carmody Torrance Sandak & Hennessey LLP’s New Haven office. He joined the firm after graduating from Boston University School of Law in 1985 and has served as a partner at it since 1995. For 38 years, he has practiced in the fields of business litigation, public utilities law, bankruptcy, and construction litigation. He currently holds a position on the executive committee of the Connecticut Bar Association’s Commercial Law & Bankruptcy Section, which he chaired from 2018-2020, and serves as chairmen of the Bankruptcy Committee of the New Haven County Bar Association.

Throughout his career, Attorney Sansone has been very involved in a variety of civic and philanthropic activities and roles. For 13 years, he was a member of the United Way of Greater New Haven’s board of directors. He served as the board’s chair from 2006-2008 and is currently serving as the chairman of its Alexis de Tocqueville Society, which consists of the most generous doners to the United Way. In 2009, he formed the non-profit, WIKS-USA to provide financial and technical support to a Kenyan non-government organization, which has helped to fund the construction, equipping, and on-going operation of a residential school for children orphaned by AIDS in the country’s rural Western Province. From 2017-2020, he served as the president of the board of directors of Clifford Beers Community Care Center and its affiliates, which provide mental health services to children and families throughout the counties of Fairfield and New Haven. Today, Attorney Sansone continues to serve on the care center’s board of directors in the role of treasurer.  

The Citizen of the Law Award is presented to a judge, attorney, or paralegal who has made a significant contribution to a charitable or public service cause that does not involve professional legal skills, but provides inspiration and contributes to the needy, the good of society, the environment, or our way of life. These activities have been undertaken on a non-professional, charitable basis with little or no personal economic reward, and some personal sacrifice.
