About the Program:

Are you interested in representing victims of domestic violence seeking civil restraining orders?  Statewide Legal Services, Robinson & Cole LLP, and the Connecticut Coalition Against Domestic Violence will hold a training for attorneys interested in representing victims of domestic abuse applying for civil restraining orders (applications for relief from abuse) under Conn. Gen. Stat. § 42b-15.  Representation is done in a limited scope capacity. This is a great opportunity to give back to the community with some pro bono work that packs a punch by helping those greatly in need with just a couple hours of commitment.

You Will Learn:
  • The law of civil restraining orders in Connecticut
  • Considerations in representing victims of domestic violence
  • The logistics of starting a pro bono program representing victims of domestic violence
  • Information on the view from the Bench
  • Voluntary Pro Bono Service under Rule 6
  • Limited Scope Representation, engagement letters, terminating engagements
  • Client Communications and Rule 1.4
  • Conflicts of Interest (Rule 1.7)
