The Connecticut Bar Association (CBA) is proud to commemorate 2021 National Women’s History Month by recognizing, spotlighting, and sharing the accomplishments of talented women in the law. The CBA is happy to recognize Valeria Caldwell-Gaines.

Attorney Caldwell-Gaines is a seasoned professional with experience in education, law, and government work. She served as deputy director of Connecticut’s enforcement arm of its anti-discrimination laws with the Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities.

For over 20 years, Attorney Caldwell-Gaines served as an adjunct faculty at the University of Connecticut School of Law and managed her own solo practice, Law Offices, Valeria Caldwell-Gaines, where she specialized in employment discrimination and child protection law, often representing professors, executives, public officials, and children. Through her practice, she earned a reputation for being a well-prepared and formidable litigator who is highly respected by the Connecticut bench and bar.

In 2019, Attorney Caldwell-Gaines closed her practice to begin a new chapter as general counsel for Charter Oak Health Center, Inc., where she provides leadership and legal advice to the organization. She is an active member of the CBA’s Women in the Law Section Executive Committee, which supports and enhances opportunities for women in the legal profession throughout Connecticut.
