Nicole M. Riel is one of four attorneys who will receive the Honorable Anthony V. DeMayo Pro Bono Award at the CBA’s annual awards celebration, Celebrate with the Stars, on Wednesday, April 3.
Attorney Riel is an associate at MeehanLaw LLC in Fairfield County, where she represents clients in all aspects of family law, including divorce, alimony, child support, child custody, property division, post-judgment matters, and premarital agreements. She has experience with cases involving intricate financial matters as well as highly contested child custody matters.
In 2018, Attorney Riel earned her J.D from Quinnipiac University School of Law with a concentration in family law and also received her MBA from Quinnipiac University. After graduating, she clerked under Judge Nina F. Elgo of the Connecticut Appellate Court. Attorney Riel is admitted to practice in the states of Connecticut and Massachusetts. She has been trained in the area of mediation through Quinnipiac University Center on Dispute Resolution’s 40-hour mediation training course. She is also trained and qualified to be appointed as a Guardian ad Litem and an Attorney for a Minor Child in Connecticut.
Attorney Riel is dedicated to working with individuals and families in a pro bono capacity, including clients of the Center for Family Justice (CFJ) in Bridgeport, an organization that she has offered her services to since 2020. In her pro bono work she has handled difficult matters, often with unusual circumstances, while always treating her clients with respect and dignity. Over the last three years, she has remained passionately committed to ensuring that victims and survivors have equitable access to justice. In addition to bringing about transformative results for her clients, Attorney Riel has also inspired other attorneys to offer their much-needed assistance to support the CFJ’s efforts.
The Honorable Anthony V. DeMayo Pro Bono Award recognizes CBA members who demonstrated dedication to the provision of legal services without expectation of payment to those in need.
