The “American Rule” that each party is responsible for its own attorney’s fees has narrowed, as grounds for recovering attorney’s fees can be found in statute, common law and contract. Recovery of attorney’s fees is an issue in virtually every lawsuit, and is frequently the most significant issue. Litigators must not approach attorney’s fees claims as an afterthought to the underlying claims, but rather must from the outset of the case formulate their strategy for obtaining, or defending against, a fee award and work diligently to implement that strategy at every step of the case. In addition to providing nuts-and-bolts law and procedure on recovery of attorney’s fees in Connecticut, the program will offer practice “dos” and “don’ts” from the perspective of experienced litigators and the bench.

Website Accessibility: Preventing Potential ADA Lawsuits CLE (EYL181023)
    The Graduate Club
    155 Elm St
    New Haven, Connecticut
    United States
5:30 PM to 8:00 PM (Eastern Daylight Time)

Web accessibility provides equal access and equal opportunity to people with diverse abilities. The Americans with Disabilities Act applies to websites as well as physical facilities. There has been a dramatic increase in lawsuits related to web accessibility. The industries primarily targeted in lawsuits include universities, retail businesses, financial institutions, medical facilities, gyms, and more. Unfortunately, there is no definitive standard for accessibility, but the World Wide Web Consortium's Web Content Accessibility Guidelines Version 2.0 with AA success criteria has become the presumptive standard. The program will include an overview of website accessibility, legal issues that can arise from an inaccessible website, and how to comply with guidelines to prevent future lawsuits under the Americans with Disabilities Act.
