Young Lawyers Section Leaders Attend Annual Leadership Retreat and Receive Service Awards

The Connecticut Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Section (YLS) hosted its annual leadership retreat on August 12-13 at Foxwoods Casino in Ledyard. The YLS Executive committee holds this event each summer to familiarize new members of the committee with the duties of their leadership roles and to present awards to members of the committee for their service during the previous bar year.

New Attorneys Sworn in to the Connecticut Bar on May 20

Twenty-five new attorneys were sworn in to the Connecticut bar at the Connecticut Supreme Court on May 20. Following the administration of the oath of attorney, CBA President Daniel J. Horgan provided a welcome to those inducted.

Attorney Elizabeth A. Alquist Receives 2022 Ladder Award

The CBA Women in the Law Section, in association with the CBA Young Lawyers Section (YLS) Women in the Law Committee, honored Attorney Elizabeth “Beth” A. Alquist as the 2022 recipient of the Ladder Award at “Pathways to Leadership for Women Lawyers,” on March 3 at the Aqua Turf Club in Southington.

CBA Hosts Donation Drive at 2021 Fall Shred Truck Events

This fall, the CBA continued hosting its seasonal shred truck events, where members can bring their files to be confidentially shredded for free. Young Lawyers Section members and several past and present board officers assisted with the events. Participants were encouraged to bring food items and household supplies for donation to Connecticut Foodshare.

YLS Host Annual Horn of Plenty Food Drive

YLS hosted its annual Horn of Plenty Food Drive, in partnership with Foodshare and Connecticut Food Bank, and collected both food and monetary donations for Connecticut’s hungry families though an online fundraising drive and in-person drop-off locations throughout the state.

YLS Volunteers for Hartford Area Habitat for Humanity

Members of the Young Lawyers Section (YLS) volunteered with Hartford Area Habitat for Humanity on Saturday, March 30. The volunteers helped build a home by hanging sheetrock and installing insulation, to contribute to Hartford Habitat's mission to provide safe, decent, affordable housing in the Hartford community.

On December 12, the Young Lawyers Section held their annual holiday party at City Steam Brewery and Café in Hartford. All funds collected from the event benefited The Open Hearth, one of Hartford’s oldest nonprofits.
