Basam E. Nabulsi will receive The Honorable Anthony V. DeMayo Pro Bono Award at the CBA’s annual awards celebration, Celebrate with the Stars, on Thursday, April 8. He is a partner at McCarter & English LLP, and practices in the areas of intellectual property, patents, and healthcare.
Attorney Nabulsi is being honored for his pro bono work with Connecticut Legal Services (CLS), where he has served as a board member since 2016. Attorney Nabulsi has recruited volunteers to staff the CLS’s Stamford Day Laborer Clinic (DLC), a clinic formed to serve day laborers whose employers did not pay them the wages or overtime they had earned. Additionally, he helped launch CLS’ Stamford Pardons Clinic, helping individuals with criminal records looking to return to the workforce. Most recently in response to the eviction crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Attorney Nabulsi helped establish the Eviction Defense Pro Bono Partnership where volunteer attorneys will represent tenants in summary process cases when the eviction moratorium ends.
The Honorable Anthony V. DeMayo Pro Bono Award recognizes CBA members who demonstrated dedication to the provision of legal services without expectation of payment to those in need. He is one of four attorneys receiving the award this year.
